Mixmaster Marvin

A key figure of house experimentation in Kingston’s clubs, Mixmaster Marvin is one of the DJs who taught the Jamaican capital to dance on four-to-the-floor. With the Upper Room Sessions he opened a space where the city’s most forward-thinking DJs blended house, hip-hop and dancehall through cutting, scratching and blending. From the 90s onward he slipped house beats into reggae selections, tested, mixed, and eventually imposed a hybrid sound that belongs to the island alone. A host on Kool 97 FM, he carries that mixing culture onto the airwaves. Behind the decks his name is well earned: sharp technique, razor-precise transitions and a feel for the dancefloor inherited from sound system culture. A figure of the Jamaican House Movement, he brings to We Love House that raw, precise Kingston club energy that has made him a reference for the entire local scene.
