Bio

Tony Humphries is one of the founding figures of house music. Born in Brooklyn, he became in the early 80s the resident DJ of Club Zanzibar in Newark, New Jersey, a temple of the dancefloor where he forged the “Jersey sound”: a warm, gospel-tinged, soulful house that influenced a whole generation of East Coast producers. At the same time, his mastermixes on New York’s KISS FM brought that sound into homes and cars across the region. In the 90s he crossed the Atlantic for a residency at Ministry of Sound in London, which cemented his reputation in Europe. A prolific producer and remixer, he has reworked dozens of house, garage and R&B classics and still tours the world with the same uncompromising selection. At We Love House he is the headliner: the one who connects the New York heritage of house to the sands of Pineapple Beach.
